Origin

Rosa damascena (Damask Rose), a member of the Rosaceae family, originated in Kashan, Persia (modern-day Iran), and was later introduced to Syria. During the Crusades, it spread to Europe, earning its name from Damascus, Syria. By the 14th century, it became widely cultivated in France and is now the primary rose variety grown in Bulgaria, recognized globally for its superior quality.

In 1984, China's State Economic and Trade Commission collaborated with Shaanxi Hengfang Rose Development Co. to introduce Bulgarian Damask roses, resulting in the "Qinwei No. 1" cultivar. Today, this rose (renamed "Damask No. 1") thrives in Hebei Province, serving as the raw material for this hydrosol.
