Molecular formula: [CH₂CHCOONa]ₙ
Dissolves slowly in water to form a colorless, viscous, transparent liquid (≈1000 cps at 0.5% concentration)
Thickening mechanism via ionic interactions among anionic groups (15-20× higher viscosity than CMC/sodium alginate)
Viscosity remains stable under heat, neutral salts, or organic acids (increases under alkaline conditions)
Insoluble in ethanol or organic solvents; stable up to 300°C
Imparts silky, hydrating feel to skin and hair
Enhances foam density/stability in cleansing products
Acts as transparent pseudo-hyaluronic acid resin with superior microbial resistance
Multifunctional: thickener, stabilizer, emulsifier, and dispersant
